Join Instow’s Halloween Beach Clean!

Looking for a fun, feel-good activity this Halloween? Why not swap the trick-or-treating for a little beach cleaning and help keep one of North Devon’s most beautiful spots looking its best?

Earth Action North Devon is bringing a special Halloween edition of its regular Instow Beach Clean to the estuary on Saturday 31st October, and everyone is welcome!

A little less trick, a little more treat!

Instow Beach is a favourite for locals and visitors alike, with its beautiful estuary views, sandy stretches, dog-friendly walks and ever-changing tides. It’s a special place to enjoy a crisp autumn walk, but keeping it that way takes a little help from all of us.

Join the team for a couple of hours of litter picking, fresh air and community spirit, helping to care for this much-loved corner of North Devon.

Whether you’re coming along with the kids, gathering your work colleagues, meeting friends or simply looking for a feel-good way to spend your Saturday morning, it’s a lovely opportunity to make a difference together.

Halloween costumes with an eco-friendly twist!

Here’s the fun part: this isn’t just any beach clean — it’s a Halloween special!

Dig out last year’s costume, get creative with something you already own or hunt for a spooky outfit in a charity shop. Earth Action North Devon is encouraging sustainable costumes, with prizes potentially up for grabs for the best eco-friendly creations.

Think ghosts made from old bedsheets, witches in pre-loved outfits and pumpkins with a creative twist. It’s a chance to wear your Halloween costume twice, have some fun and give fast fashion the fright of its life!

Perfect for families, friends and colleagues, it’s a great way to celebrate Halloween while doing something positive for the planet.

Everything you need to get involved

No need to bring your own litter-picking equipment — this will be provided. Simply turn up ready to get stuck in!

• When: Saturday 31st October, 11am–1pm
• Where: Meet at The Glorious Oyster, by the Sandhills Car Park entrance, to register.
• Equipment: Provided by the organisers.
• Parking: Free parking is available. Collect a parking slip from the organisers when you sign in.
• A little extra treat: Volunteers can enjoy a free hot drink.
